My personal prayer moment with the iconic music industry HipHop genius and billionaire, Sean Combs…

Years ago, when Sean “Diddy” Combs—then popularly known as Puff, Puffy, P Diddy, and the president of Bad Boy Entertainment—was at the zenith of his career, I attended a WGCI Music Conference in Chicago, my birthplace and hometown. The WGCI Music Summit is a significant event hosted by 107.5 WGCI FM, featuring panels, listening sessions, critiques, and discussions with artists, songwriters, producers, DJs, and top record executives* My eldest daughter artist formerly known as Flypmouf ☺, then a teenager exploring music production, accompanied me and asked Puffy direct questions about her music career aspirations. At that time, I was engaged as a Pulitzer Publishing newspapers in education (N.I.E) executive, publicist, and columnist. My objective was to show her how to forge connections with an iconic music industry genius—up-close and personal—and to have her career ideals shaped by a top-notch expert, but…

Little did I know, when the conference floor opened for questions about young artists entering the industry, my daughter and I were poised for his influential responses. Not only did he recognize the questions as valuable, but he also extended an invitation to a social event in Hyde Park, where he would be signing autographs and meeting fans. We eagerly accepted this invitation, and when our turn came at the event, my daughter shook his hand. Following her, I took hold of both his hands, asking if I might pray for him. That moment marked a profound shift, halting the line as Combs. I called my daughter a couple of hours ago while writing this to do a fact-check recollection of the moment in her life – asking her does she remember that moment – where she quickly said that “he looked at you Mom from under his extra tinted shades, then jumped across the counter to grab your hands.”

I think all three of us were surprised by the change in the higher-level energy, in which he immediately expressed his eagerness for divine intervention in his life. I was in the field of early marketplace chaplaincy thinking soul-first for Puff…and saw something then, that I can only be reminded of now – a sensitive and grateful soul before a future falling from this place. I can’t help but mourn a decision he must have made in marketing his soul somewhere down the limelight-line. The darker side of genius legacies when their celebrated candle glows blow out!

My reason for sharing this narrative is to offer a spiritual perspective on my personal encounter with Sean “Puffy” Combs, especially in light of the serious allegations now leveled against him. These allegations, detailed by former partner Cassie Ventura and music producer Rodney Jones, include physical abuse, sexual coercion, and engagement in harmful activities, leading to legal actions and settlements, though vehemently denied by Diddy and his legal team as “pure fiction.”

It’s disheartening to witness what seems to be his descent from early successes. Interacting with icons like Combs offers unique insights into their lives, fostering a narrative tinged with sensitivity. The allegations against Combs, both current and past, underscore the significance of accountability and justice in the entertainment world—even for its most celebrated figures. And years after praying with Sean Puffy, PDiddy, DIDDY – all names which he answers to with evolutionary and iconic pride…I have so many concerns to keep validating in the transformational genius development space.

The entertainment industry wields a tremendous impact. Ideally, it should be founded on principles of righteousness, advocating for the welfare of every individual. There exists a dual responsibility: for entertainers to maintain high ethical standards, principles, and values, and for society to hold them accountable within the realms of social justice and public health and safety. This responsibility extends beyond mere adulation, aiming for a positive impact on humanity.

For those young, influential, and perhaps naïve individuals aspiring to iconic success, it’s crucial their dreams are not darkened by the troubled journeys of figures like Combs. Instead, they should be guided by higher ethics and values, illuminating their path for a positive humanitarian impact.
